The Autry Museum of Western Heritage will give you an entirely new perspective on the American West. If you think we're all about cowboys and Indians, we hope you'll stop by soon and see how much more there is to learn. We do have some wonderful exhibits about the roles that cowboys played in the West, but our mission is much broader that that. We're her to help you explore and celebrate the richness and diversity of the many different cultures that populated the Western United States. If you're interested in the West, or if you want to learn more about it, there's a bit of everything here for you in a truly spectacular setting.

Just as you would expect from a world-class museum, there are lots of artifacts and artwork that bring the West to life. But the Autry Museum isn't just your basic museum. We also have films, radio and television clips, a research center, a newly-renovated hands-on discovery gallery for families, and special changing exhibits during the year.

Families will especially enjoy our new Discovery Gallery, where kids and parents can explore local history together in a fun-filled environment, and even find ways to explore their own family's genealogy.

Special exhibitions take place throughout the year. Upcoming exhibits will cover such topics as clothing and costumes in How the West Was Worn opening in the fall of '01. Jews in the West: Generations to Generation on '02. A cameo exhibit on saddles, and Ocean View: the depiction of Southern California Coastal Lifestyle in the fall of '02.

There's always something new to learn and enjoy here at the Autry Museum. You might find a western movie playing in our Wells Fargo Theater, musical performances in Heritage Court, or any number of activities like classes and workshops, live performances, or lectures and demonstrations.

If you've never been to the Autry Museum, we think you'll find your first visit to be a very special experience. If it's been a while since you've been here, there are lots of new collections and exhibits for you to enjoy, so we hope you'll come back soon.
