Located off Colorado Boulevard, just East of Old Town Pasadena, the Pacific Asia Museum is housed in a Chinese traditional villa built in the 1920's and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Within its four walls is a Chinese courtyard garden with a koi pond, sculptural rocks, and seasonal plants, providing a tranquil refuge from the outside world.
Founded in 1971, the Pacific Asia Museum has a collection of paintings, prints, sculptures, ceramics and textiles from China, Japan, India, Thailand, New Guinea and other countries, some of which are on display in the permanent galleries. In the changing galleries from May 17 - October 29, 2000 is Shifting Perceptions: Contemporary LA Visions, an exhibition of the works of 17 Los Angeles-based visual artists. The Contemporary Gallery exhibits works of Asian American artists, and those influenced by Asian art.
The museum organizes numerous cultural events, including concerts, talks, children's workshops and Family Free Days, monthly free cultural festivals.
